Michael Lavoie is a partner in the firm’s Springfield based practice. His practice is primarily focused in the areas of professional malpractice, including the defense of physicians, hospitals, lawyers, and other professionals in state and federal courts, as well as before administrative licensing bodies. Michael also represents contractors in construction claims and employers in employment law matters involving wage and hour disputes and discrimination. Whether it be early resolution, finding creative strategies to bring disputes to a close, or zealous courtroom advocacy, Michael is at his best when partnering with clients to achieve favorable outcomes to actual or potential litigation.

Prior to joining Adler Cohen, Michael gained experience in defending professionals in malpractice claims at a large litigation firm, where he worked initially as an associate and later as a partner. While in law school, Michael was also a clerk at a civil litigation firm that focused on defending medical professionals.
Michael’s results-driven approach consistently turns challenges into favorable outcomes. Recent successful results include:
· Obtaining summary judgment in a complex professional malpractice case involving a failed tech company stock purchase; judgment affirmed by the First Circuit.
· Achieved dismissal of professional negligence claims in multiple federal court actions, including defeating post-dismissal motions to amend.
· Secured reversal of adverse land court judgment on appeal, establishing rights related to implied easements.
· Defeated efforts to disqualify client-counsel in high-stakes class action litigation.
· Drafted successful appellate briefs resulting in affirmance of dismissals by both the Massachusetts Appeals Court and the United States Court of Appeals for the First Circuit.
