Lori Vaulding is a partner in the Boston office. She concentrates her practice in the areas of medical malpractice, civil rights litigation, and administrative matters. She regularly represents physicians, nurses, and other health care professionals in medical malpractice claims, nursing home claims and Board disciplinary matters. Lori handles matters involving discrimination claims and constitutional claims, and has been successful on behalf of her clients at the motion to dismiss stage, motion for summary judgment stage and trial. Lori additionally works with healthcare insurers and reinsurers in analyzing claims and risk management.
Lori has been appointed to the Massachusetts Bar Association’s Judicial Administration Section Council, which promotes fair and impartial administration of justice in the courts across the Commonwealth. With active Judges and lawyers serving as members, this section discusses the needs of the Courts throughout Massachusetts.
Lori’s legal career began clerking at a maritime law firm in Boston while she attended law school in the evening. She joined a firm specializing in social security disability upon graduation from law school and travelled the country representing those who were seeking compensation due to their disability. Thereafter, she joined a firm that represented mortgage servicers, and handled all aspects of litigation related to the mortgage, including foreclosure, eviction, title disputes and consumer protection claims.
Lori took her experience in various areas of law and began to focus on medical malpractice claims. Prior to joining Adler, Cohen, Harvey, Wakeman & Guekguezian, LLP, Lori was a Partner at a large regional insurance defense firm focusing on medical malpractice, as well as working with healthcare insurers and reinsurers.

Lori obtained a defense verdict on behalf of her client, a plastic surgeon, after a five-day jury trial in Essex Superior Court. Plaintiff underwent a neck lift and a chemical peel on her eyes, neck and chest. The client used 40% TCA (trichloroacetic acid) to perform the chemical peel. Plaintiff developed a scar on her chest and her expert opined that the 40% TCA was too high of a concentration for the chest, causing the scar. The defense expert testified that 40% TCA was within the standard of care, and the Plaintiff went in the sun after the chemical peel, had subsequent laser treatments, subsequent plastic surgery and there were suggestions she itched the area, all which could have contributed and/or caused the scar. Plaintiff also testified at her deposition that her bathing suits have turtlenecks due to the embarrassment from the scar, however, Instagram revealed otherwise. The jury found no negligence.
Lori obtained summary judgment in her client’s favor in a matter involving constitutional claims against medical providers within a jail. The Plaintiff alleged he was involved in an altercation with a correctional officer and sustained an eye injury. He alleged that the jail physician and staff delayed in transferring him to see an ophthalmologist and caused permanent damage. Lori filed summary judgment on the claims and was successful on behalf of her clients.
Lori obtained a dismissal of all claims in her client’s favor in a Federal Court matter. An inmate in a state prison alleged a mental health staff member was deliberately indifferent to his medical needs. Additionally, the inmate alleged the staff member was involved in a conspiracy against him, violated his ADA rights and intentionally inflicted him with emotional distress. Lori successfully argued all claims should be dismissed against her clients after discovery revealed the absence of viable claims.
